Syncronized12012009 Paradise Garage Tribute Mix

There is nothing in my life that compared to the time I visit the Paradise Garage in late 80's. I witness the master himself, Larry Levan work his groove on the dance floor. My first time seeing Grace Jones on stage. Had no clue who she was but I liked the way she moved the crowd.

My experience on the dance floor was like no other. The music was pumping and the folks were having a good old time. A friend of my mine exposed me to the underground in New York city in 1985, where I discovered the deep textures of disco, rock, latin and house music. I dedicate this Paradise Garage mix in memory of Larry Levan and to everyone who remember that era. My best wishes to everyone on this revisit to the Paradise Garage with a modern twist.

I have taken some of the best Latin grooves known to man today and yesterday's Latin jazz. I am very particular about Latin music as I search for grooves that move the soul and dance the romance. I love Latin music from child hood so a lot of my selections are from my own personal collection. A little history, I re-discovered Latin in Jazz while listening to WRTI a Temple University Station. I started to research further and develop a passion for this Latin jazz art.

While working here in Philadelphia at a local jazz club, Zanzibar Blue, I tried to push my Latin culture and music to the so called jazz main stream. The owners were new to the sound and found it to be risky to turn people on to. Unfortunately that glamor faded and they missed out on the perfect opportunity. I kick myself because we could of been part of that history,.. oh well

I realized in time it would grow and soon enough, the PECO Jazz festival were booking bands of Poncho Sanchez, Eddie, Tito, and countless others to perform in the city. I sit here laughing because it would be 20 years in 2010 that I have been promoting this art and here we are on this mix. Sit back relax and chill to the max, light one up , sip on that special drink, close your eyes, grab her by the waist line and dance with me this Latin Jazz...

Enjoy

Born and raised on Detroits westside in the late 60's Norm's addiction to music began at an early age.By the age of 13 years old Norm's diverse musical outlook consisted of Disco,Progressive,Jazz.Starting off Norm collected good music(45's-8-tracks-Vinyl)with proceeds earned from his paper route and eventually was introduced to Ken Collier who just happened to live 3 blocks over so needless to say most of the Disco and Progressive I attained was through Ken who was a DJ mentor for me. At this point and time I only had one turntable an eight-track player a receiver and some speakers. So I would have friends over and play records and we would dance until we were sweating!! So one day a friend that would come over and vibe was having a backyard party and needed a DJ and asked me to do it which was really special to me because I had never did a party in my life,I only had one turntable and couldn't mix!!So back to Grindstone I went to earn the money to buy a turntable and a mixer and a tape deck which I had about two months to get.At that time I made about $30 dollars a week and before you know it I was at HD Sounds putting together a system(Gem Sounds,Sharp tape deck excellent for pause button mixes, pioneer turntable)So it was on!I did the party which turned out to be a success and got some more offers to do more gigs which began a career on the decks that stands to date!!So in 1985 I began to archive the mixes I was doing on Cassette tapes(over 500)and did that for 15 years up until the year 2000 when I began making mixed CDs which I have over 400 to date.Check out DETROIT BEATDOWN VOL.1,DETROIT BEATDOWN REMIXES(mixed and unmixed)as well as other mixed CDs available at Recordtime.com and Emporium50.com Peace!!!!!!!!!
